Product Lifecycle (End of Support / End of Life) Policy for Dell Data Security

Summary: This article outlines the process that Dell Data Security leverages when associating a product with a phase in its lifecycle. This includes when a product has been sunset and is transitioning to End of Life.

Symptoms

Affected Products:

All Credant Technologies Products
All Dell Data Security (formerly Dell Data Protection) Software
All Dell Data Security (formerly Dell Data Protection) Hardware
All Dell Data Security (formerly Dell Data Protection) Utilities

Cause

Dell Data Security spans many products and was originally named Credant Mobile Guardian. In 2012, Dell acquired Credant and re-branded the product to Dell Data Protection. In 2017, the product was re-branded to Dell Data Security. As products pass their end of potential and are no longer useful to customers, or have become antiquated, these products are sunset towards their End of Life.

Resolution

Dell Data Security’s Lifecycle process flows through several stages:

  • Active
    • The outlined product is currently under active development.
  • End of Sale
    • Designated that sales of a product are restricted or have publicly ended, though new releases are being made for customers with existing contracts.
  • End of Maintenance
    • Product is no longer sold, and development of a product is no longer being maintained.
  • End of Support
    • Product is no longer sold, development has been ended, and is no longer getting updates from support, and all effort from support is best effort.
  • End of Life
    • All contracts for this product have elapsed, product is no longer sold, development has ended, product updates will no longer be posted, and this product is unsupported.

Once all of these stages have been reached, the product or feature is considered End of Life. In many cases, for products that have reached End of Life, a newer product version may be required to resolve an issue if the current version exhibiting issues is End of Life.

Un-released versions are listed below to announce upcoming End of Life for specific product versions, operating systems, or SQL Server versions (for use with the Windows server-based Dell Security Management Server [formerly Dell Data Protection | Enterprise Edition]).
